Privacy
We collect one thing about you, your email address, and only if you type it in yourself. This is the whole story.
What we store when you sign up
When you submit the form we store your email address, a lower-cased key we use to spot duplicates, which language the page was in, which of the two forms you used, and when you submitted it. Nothing else.
Why
To tell you about the first meetup and about the community. We use the address for nothing else, and we pass it to nobody.
What we do not collect
No cookies. No tracking identifiers and no profile that follows you between visits. We do not store your IP address and we do not store your user agent string. To slow down bulk sign-ups the server keeps a salted checksum of the caller's address in memory for ten minutes, never on disk, and it cannot be read back into an address.
Page statistics
Any statistics about how the page is used are, and will stay, aggregate and cookieless. We count seven things: that the page was shown, that someone pressed a button or a link, which sections were reached, how far down the page the visit got, how long the Room held the reader, which command palette commands were used, and that a signup was stored. Each counted event carries five facts about the visit: the language, which page, whether the browser asked for less motion, whether the screen is a phone, a tablet or a desktop, and whether the higher contrast mode was on. A stored signup also carries one word saying which of three buttons on the page you pressed last before you reached the form, or that none of them led you there. The word is one of four, it never leaves the page you have open and it is not stored in your browser, so it cannot follow you between visits. The time and the page depth are stored as coarse bands, never as exact values. None of it is kept per person: every row in the database is a counter for a date, not a visit, and there is no column for an IP address, a browser string, a referring page or free text. If your browser says Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we count nothing at all.
What sits in your browser
The page stores three choices in your browser's localStorage: your language, whether you want light or dark, and whether you want the higher contrast mode on. All three stay in your browser and are never sent to us.
The face on the page
The room shows the maintainer's name and his picture, at his own request, and it is the only picture of a real person on the site. The picture sits on our own server, so your browser fetches it from here and no third party learns that you are reading the page.
How long
We keep your email address until you ask us to remove it, or until the community winds down. Ask us, and it is gone. An erased address may remain in a backup for up to 30 days, after which the backup is deleted automatically.
Legal basis
Consent. You give it by submitting the form, and you can withdraw it at any time without giving a reason.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to know what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it erased, and to object to us processing it. Write to us and we will do it. If you are unhappy with how we handle it you can complain to the Swedish authority Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY, at imy.se.
